It’s no secret that the stragulating exploitative economic controls that US Fruit companies have on farmers in Central America is outrageous. And it’s no new thing, it’s been going on ever since the days of the Banana Republics. Haven’t seen it yet, but Bananas!*, a new Swedish film looks at the current situation between food multinationals and impoverished Nicaraguan farmers who are being threatened, poisoned, infertilised and generally forced to sell their crops for pocket change. Nice one fruit companies. Like they could ever come up with campesino cumbia mixes like this which I picked up in Nicaragua a couple of years ago. Sorry no tracklist.
